Kyle Sarty died after his mother’s live in boyfriend, an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces serving on the HMCS Assiniboine, beat him as a means of toilet training him.
To be clear, Canadian Forces member Christopher Allan Mitchell was later convicted of murder. Kyle’s mother Georgina Sarty, was initially charged criminal negligence causing death. This just means that Georgina was charged for failing to protect or seek help that would have saved Kyle from the abuse he suffered at the hands of Canadian Armed Forces member Christopher Allan Mitchell.
Georgina’s charges would have been upgraded after Kyle died, as her negligence could then be tied directly to Kyle’s death.
